Exeter R Users Group Launch Event

The Exeter R Users Group Launch Event was held at 5pm on Thursday 27th February in Lecture Theatre C, Streatham Court, Streatham campus (No 31. on the campus map).

R is an open source, free statistical programming language widely used for data analysis in academia and industry. The Exeter R Users group has been setup for anyone with an interest in R, whether they are expert users or just starting out. Our plan is to organize user-group meetings using either external speakers from both academia and industry or have members of the group present their knowledge of R packages, best practice and specialist topics.

The Launch event involved four speakers:

  1. Myrsini Katsikatsou (LSE): Factor Analysis using R package lavaan
  2. Philip Brohan (Met Office Hadley Centre): PoRtraits of the weather
  3. Luke Pilling (University of Exeter Medical School): Confidence in mediation estimates: resampling to determine confidence intervals in R using the package 'mediation'
  4. Paul O'Neill (Scientific Officer - Exeter Sequencing Service): TBC

The presentations were be followed by an opportunity for networking over wine and nibbles.  More information about the meeting can be found here.

For future meetings we would love to hear from anyone who is either willing to give a short presentation or has suggestions for speakers!
